Nintendo's latest Indie World Showcase aired on October 29 for Australian audiences, giving us around 15 minutes of announcements, release dates and updates on independent games coming to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

There were 23 games featured, ranging from long-awaited releases like Witchbrook to established PC favourites making their way to Nintendo's consoles.

We also got four free demos and a surprise release, so there's already something to play while waiting for the rest of the lineup.

Here's everything announced.

Witchbrook Finally Has a Release Date

After years of waiting, Witchbrook now has a confirmed release date of January 28, 2027.

Developed by Robotality and published by Chucklefish, Witchbrook is a magical life simulator set in the seaside town of Mossport.

Players will attend Witchbrook College, build friendships, develop their magical abilities and explore the surrounding world. The game also supports online multiplayer for up to four players.

It's coming to both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

Sword of the Sea Arrives on Switch 2

Giant Squid · Watch on YouTube

Sword of the Sea, the atmospheric adventure from Giant Squid, is making its way to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 29.

Originally released on other platforms in 2025, the game combines exploration with movement inspired by skateboarding and snowboarding.

Players travel across deserts, glaciers and vast stretches of water on a magical Hoversword, working to restore a lost ocean.

Giant Squid previously developed ABZÛ and The Pathless, and that experience with visually distinctive exploration games is apparent in what we've seen of Sword of the Sea.

R.E.P.O. Is Coming to Switch 2

One of the more recognisable multiplayer games featured was R.E.P.O., which is heading to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.

The physics-based co-op horror game tasks players with recovering valuable objects from dangerous, haunted environments.

It's not simply a matter of finding the loot. Players need to carry everything back safely, with the game's physics turning even basic object transportation into a potential disaster.

R.E.P.O. has already established itself on PC, and its move to Switch 2 gives Nintendo players another option for co-op horror.

Spirit Crossing Gets a November Release

Spry Fox · Watch on YouTube

Spry Fox, the studio behind Cozy Grove, is bringing its multiplayer life simulator Spirit Crossing to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on November 16, 2026.

Set in a world above the clouds, the game focuses on building a home, helping spirits and working alongside other players to restore connections between worlds.

Rather than pushing everyone towards the same objectives, Spirit Crossing is designed around a shared world where players can choose how they spend their time.

It will be a console exclusive on Nintendo's platforms.

City of None and Tenjutsu Bring Something Different

City of None is a new action-puzzle platformer from Extremely OK Games and collaborators including one of Celeste's co-creators.

Its distinctive four-colour visual style accompanies a story about reclaiming a ruined city from powerful rulers. The game is planned for both Switch and Switch 2 in 2027.

Tenjutsu, meanwhile, takes a completely different approach.

Coming from Deepnight Games and Devolver Digital, this top-down roguelike brawler puts players against the criminal syndicates controlling Secret Garden City.

The game comes from the designer of Dead Cells and features fast melee combat, weapons and a flexible approach to dismantling the city's gangs.

Tenjutsu is coming to Switch 2 in 2027.

Four Free Demos and a Surprise Release

Nintendo also announced free demos for four games:

  • Winds of Viridia: A fantasy action-adventure featuring exploration, combat and a mothbug companion.
  • Haunted Paws: A two-player co-op adventure about puppies exploring a haunted mansion.
  • Petal Runner: A retro-inspired adventure about motorcycle couriers delivering digital pets.
  • RACCOIN: Chaos Max Edition: An arcade-style coin-pushing roguelike with different characters, coins and item combinations.

All four demos were announced for release on October 28 through Nintendo's eShop.

Bao Bao's Cozy Cleaning Services also received a surprise launch on Nintendo Switch. Players take control of a panda cleaning colourful environments, either alone or with up to three friends online.

A Lot to Fit Into 15 Minutes

While there weren't any major first-party Nintendo announcements here, that wasn't the point of the showcase.

Indie World is an opportunity for smaller developers to reach Nintendo's audience, and this presentation covered everything from cooperative horror and roguelikes to traditional RPGs and more experimental concepts.

Witchbrook finally having a release date is significant, while Sword of the Sea and the newly released Bao Bao's Cozy Cleaning Services give players something more immediate.

For anyone interested in discovering games outside the major blockbuster releases, there should be a few worth keeping an eye on.

The full presentation is available on Nintendo's official Indie World website.
